Nauta Collects Another Title at Speedo Junior Championships

IRVINE, Calif., August 12. THE penultimate night of the Speedo Junior Championships featured a handful of athletes adding to their title collections, including Chelsea Nauta of Tampa Bay Aquatics. One night after burning the field in the 200 freestyle, Nauta left the Woollett Aquatic Center on Friday night with a decision in the 400 free. Nauta covered the distance in 4:15.66.

Meanwhile, Heath Tameris (Cincinnati Marlins) completed a double in the breaststroke events, as he added the crown in the 100 distance to his 200 championship from earlier in the competition. Tameris touched the wall in 1:04.69 and was complemented as a 100 breast winner by Abby MacGregor, who secured the female title in 1:11.43.

In the boys’ 400 freestyle, Logan Storie (Corvallis) prevailed with a mark of 4:00.16, an effort that narrowly defeated David Mosko of the Cincinnati Marlins, who checked in at 4:00.53. The winner of the 200 butterfly earlier in the meet, Mosko has also appeared in the finals of the 400 individual medley and the 200 freestyle.

Other victors from the fourth night of action were Atlantis’ Kristen Shickora in the girls’ 100 backstroke (1:04.23) and Cory Chitwood for the guys. Representing the Northern Kentucky Clippers, Chitwood was timed in 57.90, slightly quicker than the 57.91 of Matt Thompson (Dallas Mustangs). In the 100 butterfly events, Samantha Woodward (Kerr-McGee) won the female race in 1:00.72 and Mark Dylla (Aces Swim Club) won the male race in 55.47.
