Weik Enjoys Banner Night at Speedo Junior Championships -- August 12, 2005

IRVINE, Calif., August 11. IT was one heck of a night for Cody Weik at the Speedo Junior Championships, held at the William J. Woollett Aquatic Center. Representing Falcon Swim Club, Weik appeared in a pair of championship heats on Thursday and posted an impressive victory in the 200 freestyle, winning the race by more than a second.

En route to capturing first place in the four-lap freestyle, Weik clocked in at 1:52.50, well ahead of the 1:53.59 registered by Brian Rose of Santa Clara. To add to his evening, Weik secured fourth place in the 400 individual medley, as he touched the wall in 4:34.12. The 400 I.M. was taken by Tyler Clary (FAST), who negotiated the event in 4:26.42. The winner of the 200 butterfly on Wednesday, David Mosko (Cincinnati Marlins) raced in a pair of finals on Thursday, taking fifth in the 200 free and eighth in the 400 I.M.

On the female side, Chelsea Nauta of Tampa Bay Aquatics unfurled a dominant showing in the 200 freestyle, covering the distance in a spectacular 2:01.19. That swim handed Nauta a triumph of over two-plus seconds. As for the 400 I.M., the gold medal went to North Coast’s Jessica Schmitt, who posted a mark of 4:51.32.
