Fidel Castro Supports Cuba's Olympic Bid -- August 17, 1999

Cuban President Fidel Castro says his country's strong athletic record and its rights as a 3rd World nation translate into a perfect venue to host the 2008 Olympics. Castro said that rich and developed nations have unfairly dominated hosting the Olympics. If Cuba fails to land the Olympics in 2008, it will try again for 2012 and is confident of succeeding by 2016.
