Texas A&M Brings in 12 Recruits for Upcoming Season

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, July 2. TEXAS A&M has added 12 recruits for the upcoming season, including a trio of international standouts expected to make an immediate impact for coach Jay Holmes. The recruiting class is headlined by Magnus Kjellberg, from Sweden, Francisco Picasso, from Uruguay, and Bojan Zdesar of Slovenia.

Kjellberg owns career-best times that would make him the top gun for the Aggies in a handful of events, as he boasts short-course marks of 22.70 (50 free), 49.10 (100 free) and 55.0 (100 butterfly). As for Picasso, the Sydney Olympian is expected to make a dent in the individual medley. Picasso, who will also contribute in the breaststroke, is a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe, which recently disbanded its program.

Zdesar could make the biggest impact for Texas A&M, as he finished 20th in the 1,500 freestyle at last summer’s Olympic Games in Athens. Zdesar is also an international-caliber performer in the 400 freestyle and 200 backstroke and holds several personal-best times under A&M school records.

The remainder of the recruiting class features Chris Voigt (Phoenix), David Sweet (Austin, Texas), David Bednar (Jonesboro, Ark.), Kyle Holland (Houston), Blaine Kisler (Corvallis, Ore.), Tim Sablick (Plano, Texas), John Van Natta (Woodlands, Texas) and Tyler Welch (Austin, Texas). Alejandro Jacobo (Leon, Mexico) also starts eligibility during the upcoming season, after sitting out last year after transferring from Minnesota.
