USA Swimming Hires Managing Director to Oversee Business Development Division

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. June 21. MATT Farrell joins USA Swimming as the new Managing Director for Business Development, effective July 30. Farrell has worked for the United States Olympic Committee for a total of seven years, most recently as the Associate Director of Broadcast Properties.

“Matt is the best fit for the growing needs of our department,” said Rod Davis, USA Swimming’s Chief Marketing Officer. “He is an experienced manager with a comprehensive understanding of both the Olympic movement and the entertainment industry. His diverse background in internet properties, promotions, sponsorships, and communications will make him a valuable member of our team.”

Farrell will work collaboratively with Davis and supervise the day-to-day activities for the division.

“This is a great position for me,” Farrell said. “I look forward to returning to the organization where I began my career. USA Swimming has a record of success, and I hope to contribute new creative marketing strategies in that same direction.”

About Matt Farrell
Farrell has worked as the Associate Director in the Broadcast Properties division of the USOC, managing business development and new media marketing initiatives for the U.S. Olympic Team. He spearheaded the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame project, including sponsor sales, budget, marketing and athlete selection process.

Farrell started his current tenure at the USOC in 2000, securing first-time partnerships with such properties as NBCOlympics.com, Yahoo! and eBay. He also implemented first-time database marketing, wireless and online fundraising programs to support the U.S. Olympic Team. Farrell came back to the USOC after previously working in a similar role from 1997-1999.

From 1999-2000, he was the Director of Internet Marketing for Warner Bros., in Burbank, Calif. He handled the consumer DVD marketing for properties such as The Matrix, Humphrey Bogart, Stanley Kubrick, The Wizard of Oz, Pokemon, Scooby-Doo and more.

From 1993-1997, Farrell was the communications coordinator for USA Swimming, where he assisted on media relations, publications and Internet projects. He was a sports information assistant in the Purdue University Athletic Relations department following time at NBC Sports as a researcher for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

He earned a degree in journalism from Arkansas in 1992, and is married to Michelle Dusserre, a gymnastics silver medalist at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. They have two daughters – Abigail and Zoe.
