Bennett To Take Olympic Money -- September 11, 1996

According to reports in the USA Today, Olympic gold medalist, Brooke Bennett, plans to collect the $65,000 performance bonus she earned from her swim in Atlanta. Bennett stands to collect $50,000 from U.S. Swimming and $15,000 from the United States Olympic Committee for her victory in the 800-meter freestyle. By choosing to accept the award money, Bennett must relinquish her college eligibility.
