Azevedo, Golda Named Peter J. Cutino Award Winners in Water Polo

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 7. FOR the fourth consecutive year, Stanford University’s Tony Azevedo has been honored as the top male collegiate water polo player in the country. Azevedo and UCLA’s Natalie Golda were recently recognized as the Peter J. Cutino Award winners. Announced by the Olympic Club of San Francisco, the awards are determined by a vote of Division I coaches.

Scoring 80 goals as a senior, Azevedo helped Stanford advance to the NCAA Championship game. Azevedo is widely considered to be the greatest collegiate player in history and signed a professional contract to play in Italy. As for Golda, she powered UCLA to the NCAA championship and won three national titles in her four years as a Bruin.

The Cutino Award is named in honor of the former California Berkeley coach and member of the United States Water Polo Hall of Fame. Cutino led Cal to eight NCAA titles during his tenure as has also guided U.S. squads in the Olympic Games and World Championships.
