Aussie Preparation for World Champs to Continue at Telstra Grand Prix

CANBERRA, Australia, June 1. AS a tuneup for the World Championships in Montreal, the Australian National Team will be present at the Telstra Grand Prix from June 10-12. The meet will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Aside from featuring the likes of Grant Hackett and Leisel Jones, the competition will feature the New Zealand National Team and teams from several Aussie state institutes. The event should be a strong indicator as to the Australian squad’s positioning heading into Montreal.

“This meet is again another stepping stone on the road to Montreal for us,” said Alan Thompson, the Aussie National Team coach. “I will be looking for performances that are appropriate for each individual’s stage of their preparation. The results as far as times go might be pretty mixed but that all just depends on where each of the swimmers is at. There is no reason we won’t see some of them swimming really fast.”

With Jones, Brooke Hanson and Jade Edmistone scheduled to swim the 100 breast at the Grand Prix meet, that race should be one of the highlights. The women’s 100 free, boasting Jodie Henry, Libby Lenton and Alice Mills, should also be a sizzling race.
