National Open Water Championships Set For This Week -- May 31, 2005
FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla., May 31. THE USA Swimming Open Water National Championship Festival is scheduled to begin Thursday. Running through Sunday, the competition features the top distance swimmers in the nation over grueling distances.
The 25-kilometer races will kick off the event, which includes a festival atmosphere complete with concert and non-competitive races for younger swimmers. These races are designed to spark an interest in younger athletes. The five-kilometer race is slated for June 3 and the 10-kilometer races will close out the weekend on June 5. More than 400 swimmers are expected to compete.
