Hungarian Fraud

Rueter’s News Service is reporting that Tamas Gyarfas, Hungary’s top swimming official has resigned following allegations that half of the country’s team went to Atlanta based on fraudulent qualifying times. Lajos Babati, secretary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, told Rueters that Gyrafas did not know about the fraud before it appeared in the press and that the fraudulent times, which were submitted from a meet that never took place, would have no affect on the Olympic results. Hungary took home three golds, one silver and two bronze medals from Atlanta.
