Relay Fundraisers for Dave Denniston Set for the Weekend -- May 17, 2005

IRVINE, Calif., May 17. THIS weekend, the United States swimming community will come together to support Dave Denniston, the former NCAA champion from Auburn University who was injured in a sledding accident in February.

At various sites across the nation from May 20-22, the Dave Denniston Relay Across America Fundraiser will generate money to aid in Denniston’s rehabilitation at Project Walk, a non-profit organization that helps individuals with spinal-cord damage recover from their injuries. The primary site of the event will be the Woollet Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif.

A former United States National Team member, Denniston is expected to be on hand in Irvine. At each site, swimmers will be grouped in teams of six and will swim 10 lengths of a 25-yard pool. Six categories have been created for participants: age group, masters, coach, corporate/public service, adapted and recreational. The top fundraiser at each site will receive a commemorative award and all participants raising $50 will receive a t-shirt.

At the Irvine site, the relay will be held Saturday (May 21) with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. The relays will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aside from the relays, other activities will include raffles, live entertainment and face-painting. All money raised will go to Denniston’s recovery program. For more information, visit www.davedenniston.com.
