Cirque du Soleil Show Will Kick Off World Championships

MONTREAL, April 19. AT this summer’s World Championships in Montreal, the best swimmers from around the globe are expected to put on a spectacular show. Consequently, why not open the festivities with one of the best shows in the world.

It was announced Monday that Cirque du Soleil, based in Montreal, will develop an original exhibition for the Opening Ceremony of the World Champs, slated for July 16. The ceremony will be a celebration of water as a source of life, way of life, as an athletic and artistic playing field and will emphasize the importance of protecting and conserving the world’s water reserves.

The Cirque du Soleil production will reflect the story of an aquatic adventure, mixing reality and imagination. Cirque du Soleil’s shows feature a combination of acrobatics, circus art and street entertainment. The company was founded in 1984.

The World Championships are scheduled to run from July 16-31 and will feature competition in swimming, diving, water polo, open water swimming and synchronized swimming. More than 2,000 athletes from 160 countries are expected to compete.
