INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, April 6. UNLIKE yesterday’s 1500-meter race, in which Chris Thompson and Larsen Jensen battled stroke-for-stroke for 1200 meters before Jesen pulled away for the win, this morning’s 800-meter race was never in doubt. Jensen took the lead at the start and just kept stretching it out.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist was briefly challenged by Thompson, Justin Mortimer and 17 year-old Charles Petersen, a surprise third-place finisher in the 1500. But by 400 meters, Jensen had forged a four-second lead over Mortimer and Thompson, with Petersen another two seconds back.

Jensen glided into the finish in 7:54.22, splitting 3:57.25 – 3:56.97.

Thompson passed Mortimer at 600 meters, then pulled away, adding a second to his margin on each of the remaining 100 meters to finish second in 8:03.79. Mortimer followed in 8:05.78 with Petersen fading to fourth in 8:12.67.
