NCAA Div. I Men's Champs, Day 1 Finals: Arizona State's Puhakka Captures 1-Meter Diving Title -- March 24, 2005

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., March 24. JOONA Puhakka was clearly the class of the 1-meter diving field, outdistancing the second-place finisher by 33.60 points en route to the crown. Puhakka, last year’s champion in the 3-meter event, tallied 421.05 points for his six dives.

Georgia’s Chris Colwill took second (387.45) and Alabama’s Stewart Smith placed third (377.75). Auburn added fourth (Steve Segerlin) and eighth place (Matt Bricker) in the event, extending their lead in the team race to 42 points heading into tonight’s final event, the 400 medley relay.
