Big Ten Women’s Day Four Prelims; Penn State's Biedermann Sets Pool Mark -- February 19, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, IN, February 19. INDIANA women's swimming and diving pushed six swimmers to this evening's finals session at 7 p.m., in a quick morning session at the 2005 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championship in the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, reported the host Hoosiers.

Overall, one pool record went down along with four A-cuts and 47 B-cuts.

In the opening event of the last swimming prelim session of the weekend, Wisconsin sophomore Susan Johnson was the top qualifier with a 1:58.21 to out-touch Penn State sophomore Erin Morris' time of 1:58.24 to move to tonight's finals in the 200-yard backstroke. Both times cleared the NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Michigan sophomore Lindsay Smith (49.19) and Northwestern freshman Andrea Hupman (49.39) punched their tickets to West Lafayette as the top-two qualifiers.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Michigan freshman Justine Mueller was the top qualifier with a 2:14.85, just missing the “A” cut.

The Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center record fell in the 200-yard butterfly to Penn State junior Amberle Biedermann who posted a 1:58.65. She is already the 100 fly champ.
