H2O Frog Females Fall To Rice, 166-129 -- February 11, 2005

FORT WORTH, TX, February 11.THE TCU women's swimming and diving team dropped its first home dual of the season Saturday against Rice, 166-129, at the University Recreation Center, per TCU sources.

The Frogs lost for just the second time this season to finish the with a 2005 dual record of 11-2.

In the 200-freestyle, sophomores Karen Sandifer and Rikki Covey finished first and second, respectively to lead TCU. Sandifer finished with a time of 1:54.76 to win the event, while Covey touched the wall in 1:54.76. Later in the meet, Covey also finished second in the 200-backstroke in a season-best time of 2:06.85.

In one of the closest races of the day, junior Leann Cathcart claimed the title in the 50-freestyle when she narrowly defeated Rice's Laura Healey. Cathcart sprinted to the victory in 23.85 seconds, while Healey finished just one-hundredth of a second behind at 23.86.

Sophomore Keleigh Wentworth earned a pair of runner-up finishes on the day. Wentworth finished with a time of 2:08.13 in the 200-butterfly and 5:09.31 in the 500-freestyle.

In the diving events, TCU's Kelly Seely picked up a pair of victories as she swept the one and three-meter events. The junior posted season-best marks in both events as she finished with 266.03 points in the 1-meter and 264.04 in the 3-meter.

The men and women's team will next be in competition on Feb. 23-26 when they travel to Houston, Texas, for the Conference USA Championships/Invitational. The Frogs will be looking to defend their conference titles as the men will be going for the C-USA four-peat and the women will be looking for back-to-back championships.
