IU Pays Tribute to Each Senior: Today — RICHARD BRYANT

BLOOMINGTON, IN, February 9. INDIANA head men’s swimming coach Ray Looze, head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber and the entire Indiana University men's swimming and diving program wish to pay tribute to the crop of senior leaders that will exhaust their eligibility at the end of this season, per reports from the school.

Richard Bryant, Alex Burns, Marc Carlton, Brian Ellsworth, Murph Halasz, Niles Madison, Brian Metzler and David Winck all sacrificed their effort, energy and time to the program during their tenure in Bloomington.

In the coming weeks, we will spotlight each IU outgoing-senior individually. The first Hoosier in the series is Bryant.

Senior Year (2004-05)
Won an event title with a first-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle against Michigan State … placed in the top three 13 times … posted five separate personal bests … currently sits in third on IU's 400-yard IM chart and seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle … owns a pair of the top-100 times in the country (1,650 free: 100th; 400 IM: 70th).

Junior Year (2003-04)
Advanced to the finals heat of the 400-yard IM at the Big Ten Championships and finished eighth in the event … also scored in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2004 Big Ten Championships with a 12th-place performance … placed 21st in the 200-yard backstroke at the Big Ten meet … had team season-bests in the 400 IM (3:52.63) and the 1000-yard freestyle (9:23.94) … at the Indiana Invitational, finished second in the 400-meter IM and fourth in the 400-meter freestyle, the 200-meter backstroke and the 1650-yard freestyle … was a triple-winner at Northwestern as he won the 1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 IM.

Sophomore Year (2002-03)
At Big Ten Championships, finished sixth in the 400-yard IM with career-best time of 3:52.40, the third fastest in Indiana history … also at the Big Ten Championships, placed 13th in the 1650-yard freestyle and 17th in the 500-yard freestyle … won the 200-yard freestyle and placed second in both the 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events at the Indiana Invitational … at the Texas Invitational placed seventh in both the 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle.

Freshman Year (2001-02)
Recorded the third-best 1000-yard freestyle time (9:19.00) in school history … at the 2002 Big Ten Championships, he finished 16th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:41.48, 24th in the 200-yard free (1:40.68) and 28th in the 500-yard free (4:31.81) … also swam the third leg of Indiana's seventh-place 800-yard freestyle relay.

Prep/Personal
A finalist in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle at the European Junior Championships, Bryant was a member of the Great Britain Junior Team for three years … won a bronze medal in the 400 IM at the 1999 European Youth Olympics in Denmark … a Finance major.
