Minnesota’s Justin Mortimer Is The Man In The Big Ten Again

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, February 1. THE University of Minnesota was proud to announce selection of senior Justin Mortimer as the Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week this afternoon after winning five events in the Gophers' dual meet victories over No. 17 Purdue and No. 20 Wisconsin.

This is Mortimer's second weekly accolade of the season and the third of his career.

Mortimer went unbeaten on the weekend, winning the 1000 freestyle (9:00.08), 500 freestyle (4:25.38), 200 freestyle (1:38.55) and the 400 individual medley (3:54.83) individually. He won the 1000 free by over 15 seconds. The Milton, Mass. native also swam a leg of the 800 freestyle relay team that won in 6:37.94.

Minnesota defeated Purdue 218-135 and Wisconsin 268-95. The Gophers host the Minnesota Challenge this weekend, Feb. 4-5, at University Aquatic Center. Friday's action starts at 6 p.m. while Saturday's swimming begins at noon. This meet serves as the final tuneup before the Big Ten Championships, which will be held at University Aquatic Center Feb. 24-26.

Mortimer previously won the award this season on November 9 after winning four individual events and a relay in a triple dual meet as the Golden Gophers defeated No. 12 North Carolina and Virginia Tech.
