Road-Warrior Rice Women Edge Tulane in Squeaker, 142-138

NEW ORLEANS, LA, January 30. RICE senior Lauren Hill won three events while the tandem of Urska Ros and Brittany Massengale posted a pair of wins to pace the Rice swim team to a 142-138 dual meet win over Tulane Saturday afternoon in New Orleans, La, per Rice reports.

The Owls won 10 of the meet's 14 swim events, but had to hang on for a narrow victory over their future Conference USA opponent. After a split of a double-dual Friday in Baton Rouge, Rice concluded its weekend road swing through Louisiana winning two of three meets.

Hill won the 200-yard individual medley and swept both the 100- and 200-breaststroke. The standout from Bellevue, Wash., also swam the breaststroke leg of the Owls' winning 200-medley relay.

Ros picked up where she left off the day before, winning the 100-butterfly and 200-freestyle. She also swam the lead leg of Rice's 200-free relay that recorded a season-best time of 1:36.58.

Distance specialist Brittany Massengale led a 1-2 Owl finish with Adi Bichman in the mile (17:03.06). Massengale then came back later in the meet to win the 500-free (5:00.99).

Senior Jane Keith picked up some critical first place points by winning the 100-backstroke (58.63). Junior sprinter Laura Healey won the 50-free (24.30) and was the anchor on both relays.

The Owls are now 4-5 in dual meets this season. Rice will again be back on the road next week with dual meets at SMU (Feb. 4) and TCU (Feb. 5).
