Hoosier Women Reverse Men’s Results with Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OH, January 12. THE No. 25 Indiana women's swimming and diving squad improved to 5-2 and 1-1 in Big Ten action after extending its win streak to four meets with a 130-111 conquest of Ohio State on Jan. 8 at the Peppe Aquatic Center in Columbus, Ohio, pr IU reports.

While the IU men lost to the Buckeyes, the women won six out of the 13 events, while sophomore Leila Vaziri paced IU with two event crowns.

"Basically, I thought we swam pretty tough today," Head Coach Dorsey Tierney said. "It has been a long week. We raced pretty well. Leila Vaziri had a real nice day. Lauren Torpey had a good day coming off some fantastic training the last few weeks. She put together some solid races today."

In the initial event of the meet, Ohio State jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in an odd 400-yard medley relay event in which three separate squads were disqualified. OSU's quartet of senior Katie Kolles, sophomore Rebekah Rychvalsky, freshman Kati Wall and freshman Annie Rennebohm won the event in 4:00.37, while IU's squad of sophomore Michelle Parent, freshman Angela Calvert, junior Lauren Lubus and freshman Lauren Schrader finished in second in 4:14.80.

"It is always a tough place to dive," Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. "We did a terrific job. It is probably one of our better finishes there in a long time. Cassie (Cardinell) did a good job after sitting out with foot surgery last semester."
