Purdue Men, Host Florida Atlantic Lead FAU Winter Invite

BOCA RATON, FL, January 7. FLORIDA Atlantic University's swim teams took a break from their holiday training on Thursday morning to host the FAU Winter Invite. Air Force, Purdue, Transylvania and Michigan all competed at the event at FAU Pool, per FAU reports.

The FAU women won the event by winning 11 events.

Jenny Harms led the way for the Lady Owls with two first place finishes. The freshman from Fort Myers won the 500 and 1000 freestyle events with times of 5:06.64 and 10:27.72, respectively.

Other first place finishers for the women included Valeria Dalmastro in the 50 free (25.20), Jessica Lampkin in the 100 free (55.52), Colleen Lehane swam a 1:58.83 in the 200 free and Mary Milburn recorded a 2:13.31 in the 200 back. Also winning their events were Ellie Weberg in the 200 breast (2:28.27), Shawna Griffith in the 200 fly (2:05.54) and Geni Burts in the 200 IM (2:10.26).

Both the 400 free and 400 medley relays touched the wall before opponents with times of 3:42.17 and 4:03.90. The 400 free relay consisted of Valeria Dalmastro, Kristy Gmeiner, Shawna Griffith and Jenny Harms, while Burts teamed with Gmeiner, Lampkin and Weberg in the 400 medley relay.

The men's team was led by the performance of the 400 free relay. The squad won the event in 3:08.89. The 400-yard medley relay earned a second place finish in 3:31.65.

Individually, the men were led by Eric Hilgenfeldt's third place finish in the 100 free with a time of 47.94. Ehren Onurlu followed with a time of 48.00 for a fourth place finish.

In the 200 free, Matt Brody took fourth place in 1:45.33, while Pavel Babaev led the charge in the 50 free with a time of 22.24 for a fifth place finish.
