Three Swimmers Suspended After Positive Drug Tests -- May 23, 1999

FINA has temporarily suspended three swimmers for failing drug tests. David Meca Medina of Spain, Igor Majcen of Slovenia and Roberto Delgado of Ecuador all tested positive for banned substances and will remain under suspension until a FINA doping panel holds hearings into the three cases on June 14.

Medina and Majcen both tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone during a World Cup event on January 31 in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. Delgado tested positive for the banned stimulant pseudoephedrine at last month's Short-Course World Championhips in Hong Kong.
