Minnesota Men, Host Women Win Georgia Invitational Team Titles -- December 6, 2004
ATHENS, GA, December 6. MINNESOTA’S men outscored second place Florida State by over 350 points while Georgia likewise dominated the women’s competition, outpointing California by nearly 400.

The final night featured a great race in the men’s 1650 between a couple of seniors, Harvard’s John Cole and Minnesota’s Justin Mortimer, with Cole getting the touch 15:11.05 to 15:12.79, both just off the “A” standard of 15:05.87.
Laura Conway, Georgia, didn’t have the same type of race but had a better individual result finishing over 15 seconds under the “A” cut in the women’s 1650 at 16:07.69, winning by nearly 40 seconds. Conway also swim 4:48.11 in the 500 on opening night.
The women’s 800 free relay on day two was the equal of the Cole-Mortimer 1650 race, with Cal edging Georgia 7:10.10 to 7:10.73, both “A” standards. Mary DeScenza lead off the Bulldogs with an automatic 200 free standard of 1:47.43 and had an anchor leg from Kara Lynn Joyce at 1:45.77 but even with those legs they were not able to surpass the consistent legs from the Golden Bears (Ashley Chandler, 1:48.15; Erin Reilly 1:46.60; Emily Silver, 1:48.62; Lauren Medina, 1:46.73).
