Big West Names Irvine’s Simonsen and Nagata Athletes of the Week -- November 26, 2004

IRVINGE, CA, November 27. IRVINE sophomore Dan Simonsen (La Verne/Bonita HS) and freshman Chelsea Nagata (Kahului, Hawaii/Maui HS) were each named Big West Athlete of the Week for their performances at the UCI/Speedo Cup in Long Beach.

Simonsen swam the fastest times in the Big West this season in the 100 breast and the 200 breast with times of 56.19 and 2:05.45 respectively.

Nagata broke the UCI record in the 50 free with a time of 23.62, which is the fastest time in the Big West this season. She finished third in the 100 fly with a time of 55.69 also the fastest in the Big West this season. She was a member of the UCI-record breaking relay team in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.89
