France’s Laure Manaudou Breaks Last Remaining East German World Record

LA ROCHE SUR YON, France, November 20. FRENCH superstar Laure Manaudou broke a 22 year-old world record today in the 1500 meter freestyle short course during a distance meet in La Roche sur Yon, France.

Clocking 15:42.39, she erased Petra Schneider's mark of 15:43.31. En route, she established a French record at the 800 split with her 8:23.03.

Schneider's record was the oldest in the record book and the last remaining record from the shameful two decade-long era of systematic doping by the East German government.

Only three months after winning three medals at the Olympic Games in Athens — one gold, one silver and one bronze — Manaudou who is now undergoing heavy training, has set her sights on additional records in Vienna during the European Short course. In addition to swimming the 200, 400 and 800 free, she probably will race in the medley events as well.

The next meet for Manaudou is the French Interclub Championships in two weeks.
