Boncher, Newell, Connors-McBride Lead Atlantic-10 Honorees

Philadelphia, PA, November 2. THE Atlantic-10 Conference announced its weekly honorees for performers of the week for swimming, diving and newcomers.

Women’s Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week

Brooke Boncher – Richmond
Junior, West Newbury, MA/Pingree HS

Competing in Richmond’s dual meet at Tennessee on Oct. 15, Boncher placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.96 and swam on the Spiders’ 200-yard medley relay team that finished second with a time of 1:46.35…also recorded winning times in the 100-yard freestyle (52.41) and 100-yard butterfly (56.52) events… earns her fourth Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor…Tennessee defeated UR, 167-128

Erika Newell – Fordham
Senior, Branford, CT/Branford HS

Newell broke her own school record in the 100-yard backstroke on Oct. 22 at Connecticut with a time of 56.74…also won the 50-yard freestyle at UConn in a time of 24.16…Fordham dropped a 170-119 decision to the Huskies…took gold in the 50 – and 100-yard freestyle events on Oct. 28 in the Rams’ 137-104 win versus Marist.

Women’s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

Aneeli Johnson – St. Bonaventure
Freshman, Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS

In her first collegiate meet on Oct. 27 at Buffalo, Johnson placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.14 and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay that posted a time of 1:49.39…also took gold in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.54)…placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke versus Pittsburgh on Oct. 29 with a mark of 1:05.04.

Men’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week

Sean Connors-McBride – La Salle
Sophomore, Stroudsburg, PA/Germantown Academy

In La Salle’s 131-112 victory at Rider on Oct. 30, Connors-McBride took gold in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:44.96 and was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:54.13…competing at Villanova on Oct. 23, Connors-McBride placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.30).

Men’s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

Donnie Callara – Fordham
Freshman, Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale HS

Callara was victorious in the one-meter and three-meter diving events on Oct. 29 at St. Peter’s, tallying scores of 307.80 and 308.62, respectively, as Fordham emerged with a 132-62 victory…has won five of six diving events this season.
