Masters Records Fall -- April 2, 1999

U.S. National Team co-captain Jon Olsen destroyed the national Masters record for men 30-34 in the 100 yard freestyle at a Masters meet in Atlanta. Swimming unshaved and untapered, the four-time Olympic gold medalist clocked a 44.65. He also won the 200 free in 1:39.98. Olsen, who will be making a bid to make his third Olympic team next year, hopes to lower his times substantially at the Masters Short Course Nationals in Santa Clara.

Across the country in California, one magical heat at the Rinconada short course meet produced three women's national records in the 1000 yard freestyle. Lisa Hazen (30-34) swam 10:16.31; Suzanne Heim-Bowen (40-44) went 10:40.82; and Laura Val (45-49) stroked 11:21.39.

Full meet results are posted on the Pacific Masters website: www.pacificmasters.org.
