Short Court World Championships, Day Three Finals: Pereira Thrills Brazilian Contingent With Win in Men’s 200 IM -- October 9, 2004

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, October 9. THIAGO Pereira of Brazil scored a mild upset in winning the 200 Individual Medley in 1:55.78 over American Ryan Lochte who won his third medal of the meet by finishing second at 1:55.86.

Pereira won the race with a fine breaststroke leg of :33.47, whereas Lochte was :34.38. Trailing by 0.59 entering the freestyle, Lochte swam a blistering :27.05 final leg but came up short as the Brazilians in the crowd went wild.

400 IM winner Ous Mellouli of Tunisia took bronze at 1:56.23.
