Wilkinson, Dumais Win Titles on First Day of NCAA Zone Diving

FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS – University of Texas junior Laura Wilkinson and UT freshman Troy Dumais both won springboard titles at the NCAA Zone “D” Regional Diving Championships at the University of Arkansas’ HPER Natatorium. With their titles come automatic berths to their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Wilkinson, the 1997 NCAA National platform champion and 1999 Big 12 Conference three-meter champ, won the women’s three-meter springboard event with a score of 533.90. With her win, Wilkinson has automatically qualified to compete in the NCAA Women’s Championships, to be contested next Thursday, March 18 through Saturday, March 20 at Gabrielsen Natatorium on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Ga.

Dumais, who sat out the Big 12 Championships last week to fully rest from an injury suffered last month, easily captured an automatic berth to the NCAA Men’s Championships, which will be held March 25-27 (Thursday-Saturday) in Indianapolis. His score of 573.35 points bettered that of Texas A&M senior Mark Naftanel by nearly 10 points (564.50).
