Canada’s Head Coach Dave Johnson To Get the Boot

OTTAWA, Canada, August 28. CANADIAN Head Coach Dave Johnson will be sacked next week following Canada's worst performance in swimming at the Olympic Games since 1952, according to informed Canadian sources.

Stephen Wickens, of the Toronto Globe and Mail, reports that the board of directors of Swimming Canada/Canada Natation made the decision in a conference call on August 26.

Swimming Canada president Rob Colburn, however, declined to confirm whether a vote on Johnson's status had taken place.

"I can tell you we had a very good meeting, that we talked a lot about the
future. . . . Naturally, coaching was part of the discussion," Colburn said. "Dave (Johnson) is not in the country, so it would be inappropriate to discuss with the press the coaching situation.."

Nonetheless, it is clear that at least one of the individuals who took part in the conference call has spoken out and revealed what apparently was decided.
