NCAA Men's Swimming: #7 Georgia Upsets #2 Texas, 126-117 -- January 19, 1999

Athens, GA - A day after the No. 2-ranked University of Texas men's swimming and diving team handed No. 3 Auburn just its second dual-meet loss in five years, the Longhorns were defeated at No. 7 Georgia 126-117 on Saturday afternoon at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

As they did on Friday, the Longhorns opened the meet with wins in the 400-yard medley relay and by junior All-American Jon Younghouse (Cape Girardeau, Mo. / Central HS) in the 500 freestyle. Texas opened its lead after four events to 46-28 with wins by sophomore Jamie Rauch (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek HS) in the 200 freestyle and junior Bryan Jones (College Station, Texas / A&M Consolidated HS) in the 50 freestyle. Jones' time of 20.36 was a season-best for him and also under the NCAA consideration standard.

Georgia senior Atiba Wade, swimming in his final home dual meet of his career, then led the Bulldogs to a 1-2 finish in the 200 indivdual medley to pull within seven at 50-43. Texas freshman Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif. / Buena HS) posted his best dual-meet total of the season on the one-meter board with a pool-record score of 356.25 points, but Georgia earned seven valuable points with second- and third-place finishes by All-Americans Jud Campbell and Trey Hart.

Texas sophomore Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky. / Covington Catholic HS) followed with a win in the 200 butterfly, then Georgia's Wade took his second event, the 100 freestyle, to make the score 81-69 in favor of the Longhorns.
