But a recent Indiana Sports Corporation news release reminds us that the WORLD'S elite swimmers from more than 100 countries are coming to Indianapolis to torch the record books, just six weeks after the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Indianapolis and Indiana Sports Corporation will host at Conseco Fieldhouse the first FINA World Swimming Championships to take place in the United States from October 7-11. It will be the most prestigious international swimming event to take place outside the Olympic Games in 2004.

A temporary 25-meter, 300,000-gallon competition pool and a 175,000-gallon warm-up pool will be constructed in the Fieldhouse in a record two-week period for this event, creating an atmosphere where guests will be immersed in the action. Can you imagine a pool being built in a basketball arena? It will definitely be an exciting and memorable experience for many. Athletes committed to compete at this event include Michael Phelps, Ian Thorpe, Alexander Popov, Ed Moses, Lindsay Benko, Jenny Thompson, and others.
