NCAA Men's Water Polo: Stanford Captures MPSF Title, Reaches NCAA Tournament -- December 3, 1998

NEWPORT BEACH, CA - Layne Beaubian scored three of his seven goals in the overtime period to lead Stanford, the No. 4 seed, to the MPSF Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. In overtime, the Waves struck first with 1:33 left in the first period, as Jeremy Pope fired a two-pointer past Stanford's Chris Aguilera to give Pepperdine the 8-6 lead. Beaubian answered with a goal with less than 20 seconds left in the first overtime period. Arturo Rodelo and Beaubian each scored two-pointers in the final overtime period to give the Cardinal the title. Merrill Moses of Pepperdine recorded 15 saves, and Aguilera finished the game with 10.
