Women's NCAAs, Day 3: Georgia's Mary descenza Defends Her 200 Fly Title, sets NCAA Record -- March 20, 2004

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 20. THE 200 fly turned into the closest race of the meet, with the top five finishers separated only by half a second.

At the end it was Georgia’s Mary Descenza, repeating as champion s her 2:06.02 sliced 2-hundredths of a second off Liu Limin’s NCAA record from four years ago.

Kaitlin Sandeno just missed in her bid for three titles, taking second in 2:06.07. Arizona frosh Whitney Myers was third in 2:06.33.

Dana Kirk, who led at the 100 (1:00.09) was fourth (2:06.54) and Emily Mason fifth (2:06.57).

Swim this race five different times with this field and you just might get five different winners.
