Axtell, Hansen, Weghorst Star at Texas Senior Circuit Meet -- March 1, 2004

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 1. WHILE the Texas A&M swim teams traveled to Austin for the Big 12 Championships, the A&M pool played host to the Texas Senior Circuit/Speedo Championship Series swim meet, February 26-29.

Texas Aquatics' Andrea Axtell and Dallas Mustangs' Codie Hansen, both 17, were the big winners for the women over the weekend.

Axtell, best known as a one-minute 100 meter flyer, showed she has some serious speed in the dorsal events as she raced to victories in both the 100 (1:03.63) and 200 (2:15.35) meter events.

The Dallas Mustangs' Codie Hansen won three events: the 100 (57.29), 400 (4:19.50) and 800 meter freestyle (8:29.50). In the 200 free, she was upset by teammate Katie Roberts, 17, who swam 2:03.16 to lead a 1-2-3-4-5 Dallas Mustangs sweep. (Needless to say, the Mustangs won the 4x200m relay.)

On the men's side, former SMU All-American Matt Weghorst took the 50 and 100 meter freestyle sprints in 23.34 and 51.64.

Joey Montague breezed to a three-second win in the 200m IM, touching in 2:05.32.
