UWM Coach Dave Clark Named To Division 1 Swimming & Diving Committee -- February 18, 2004

MILWAUKEE, Wis, February 18. UNIVERSITY of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head swimming coach Dave Clark has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men and Women's Swimming Committee. Clark's appointment marks the first time in UWM and Horizon League history that the head swimming coach has garnered this opportunity.

"This is a great chance for me to help the sport of swimming continue to grow," Clark said. "Being the first head swimming coach at UWM to get this appointment means a lot and I'm excited for the opportunity."

Clark's responsibilities for the committee will include promoting the sport of swimming and looking ways to continue its' growth.

Clark, a Northern Illinois University graduate, is just the second head coach in the Division I history of the program and has overseen the program's entrance into the Horizon League and has helped the Panthers rise to the top of the league.

Under Clark's direction, UWM had its first NCAA Provisional Qualifier, Josh Baseheart, in the 100 freestyle in the 2001-02 campaign. Baseheart repeated the provisional qualifying effort in the 2002-03 season by qualifying in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle. Baseheart was also named an Academic All-America, another first in the school's Division I history.

Clark has earned league coach of the year honors three times in his career, first in 1998 with the men's team and again with the men as they won their first league championship in 2000. A year later, Clark guided the women's team to their first league title and collected another Coach of the Year award in the process.

In his 13th year as the Panthers' head coach Clark has compiled a men's dual meet record of 94-49-1 and a women's dual meet record of 73-60 for UWM.
