SMU’s Georgina Lee Named WAC Swimmer of the Week

DALLAS, Tex, February 3. SMU's Georgina Lee has been named the Western Athletic Conference swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday. It is the second time this year Lee has been WAC Swimmer of the Week. Lee, a senior from Birmingham, England, captured the gold medal in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:08.03 at the Fina World Cup in New York City on January 31.

Her time was a new short course meter school record at SMU, breaking the mark she had set in 2001 (2:08.04). Her win in the 200m fly capped off a successful weekend that saw Lee have top 10 finishes in three other events over the two day event in the Big Apple. Other Nominees included: Nika Nakamoto, Fresno State and Laura Healey, Rice. SMU returns to action this weekend, Feb. 6-7, when it travels to Houston, Texas to compete against Houston and Rice.
