In San Diego Showdown, UCSD Women Drub USD, 196-101

LA JOLLA, Calif., January 24. IN its final home meet of the season, the UC San Diego women's swimming and diving team humbled Division I crosstown rival University of San Diego by the final score of 196-101 at UCSD's
Canyonview Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The meet began with a one-two Triton sweep in the 200 Medley Relay and ended with another one-two finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Nine of the remaining 14 events ended in UCSD victories, including an impressive 1-2-3-4 finish in the 50 Freestyle.

Sophomore distance star Sophie Levy led the way with a pair of wins in a lifetime-best 10:24.84 in the 1000 Freestyle and a 5:06.97 in the 500 Freestyle. Also a two-event winner, junior Rosanna Delurgio squeaked out closely-contested victories in the 100 (1:05.20) and 200 (2:20.20) Breaststroke.

Saturday's victory moves the Triton women to 4-4 on the season in dual action. It was the sixth meeting for UCSD against USD under head coach Scott McGihon. Each team has taken three of those meetings, with the home team coming out on top each time. The Tritons edged the Toreros, second-place to third-place, at last year's Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships.

Both the UCSD men's and women's teams will travel to Division I UC Irvine next Saturday, January 31, to close out the dual meet season. The first race will begin at 12:00 PM.
