PSU’s Marc Gastaldo and Margy Keefe Earn Big 10 Weekly Accolades

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn, January 15. JUNIOR Marc Gastaldo (Winslow, ME) and freshman Margy Keefe (Cincinnati, Ohio) were named the Big Ten's male Diver-of-the-Week and female co-Swimmer-of-the-Week, respectively, for their efforts in Penn State's meet at North Carolina this past weekend.

They are the Nittany Lions' eighth and ninth recipients of the weekly conference accolades this season. Gastaldo is the third different Penn State male diver to earn weekly honors and it is the fifth overall award for Nittany Lion divers. Keefe is the third different Penn State female swimmer to win the award and also the second freshman.

Gastaldo garnered a first-place finish at No. 21 North Carolina with a score of 321.05 on the three-meter board, finishing seven points ahead of the competition. He also placed third on the one-meter board with a 280.30.

Keefe captured two first-place finishes in Penn State's 157.5-142-5 upset of No. 13 North Carolina. She set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:56.59 and she hit an NCAA "B" qualifying time with 4:52.57 in the 500 freestyle.

The Penn State men will be back in action 12 p.m. Jan. 24th when they host No. 17 Pittsburgh. The Penn State women will host No. 12 Indiana and Pittsburgh over the course of two days beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 23rd.
