UC Irvine Women and Cal Poly Men Take Irvine Relay Meet

IRVINE, Calif, January 5. THE UC Irvine women and the Cal Poly men won the UC Irvine/Country Inns & Suites Invitational Relay Meet at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The Anteater women won all 10 relay events held in the meet as they scored 409 points for the win. Nebraska finished second with 368 points followed by San Diego State with 358 points.

The Anteater men won seven of the 10 relay events, but it would not be enough to top Cal Poly as the Mustangs would finish with 494 points to the Anteaters 422.

Though the Huskers had no winners in the relay events, multiple second- and third-place finishes by relay teams put solid points on the board for Nebraska, as it finished in the top three in seven of 10 relay events contested.

Impressive swims by Nebraska senior Angie Matheu led the team to its second-place finish. Matheu swam legs in relays that earned three of the team's second-place finishes and two more of the team's third-place finishes. She led Nebraska team "D" to its second-place finish in a time of 1:51.99, just behind Irvine (1:49.51). Freshmen Mallory Keathley, Bailey Ingles and Michelle Criss joined Matheu on the "D" relay squad. Ingles and Criss each helped three relay teams to top-three finishes.
