Two US Masters Marks Fall in San Diego -- December 10, 2003

SAN DIEGO, Calif. December 10. TWO new short course meters USMS national records were set last weekend at a meet held on December 7th at the Ned Baumer pool at Miramar College in San Diego.

Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen, 41, swam a 17:45.50 for the 1500 meter free slicing over 17 seconds off the previous best of 18:02.62 set by Suzannean Heim-Bowen in 1998.

The 200+ mixed relay quartet of Mike Keeney (49), Mike Ahern (58), Barbara Dunbar (54) and Pipes-Neilsen swam a stunning 4:10.72 for the 400-meter free. The time took almost eleven seconds off the old record of 4:21.64 established less than a year ago by GOLD.
