Truman Women Sail Through Weekend -- December 9, 2003

KIRKSVILLE, Mo, December 9. THE Truman women's swim team claimed another victory at the Mutual of Omaha Invitational this past weekend. They took a commanding lead on the first day of the meet and never looked back. Truman more than doubled the second-place team's score with1,581 points. The University of Nebraska-Omaha scored 733 points. The Truman women had some outstanding performances in this prelim/final meet.

The 400-yard freestyle relay captured a first-place finish on the second day of competition. The relay, consisting of junior Sarah Dance (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast), sophomore Whitney Jenssen (Grinnell, Iowa), freshman Lija Kaleps-Clark (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) and sophomore Meredith Rocha (Whitehouse, Texas/Grace Community), recorded an automatic qualifying time (3:32.55) for the NCAA Division II swim meet.

Other first place finishes were recorded by the 800-yard freestyle relay, and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Truman distance swimmers dominated the water, claiming seven of the top eight times in the 500 freestyle.
Distance swimmers junior Sarah Wells (Carrollton, Texas/Newman Smith) and senior Katie May (Westmont, Ill/Hinsdale Central) had great swims in the 1,650 with both capturing B-cuts. Wells also narrowly missed an A-cut in the 400 individual medley recording a time of 4:36.10.

Junior Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa) captured two victories in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Freshman Lindsay Vaughan (Leawood, Kansas/St. Thomas Aquinas) came close to an A-cut in the 200 breaststroke recording a time of 2:24.63
