East Carolina Signs Nine During Early Signing Period

GREENVILLE, N.C., November 28. EAST Carolina has announced the signing of nine student athletes for the 2004-05 season. It is ECU's largest signing class in the early period.

Megan Pulaski, a senior at Trinity Christian School in Greenville, leads the class. Pulaski swims for the Greenville Gators. A distance freestyler, she made her junior national cuts in the 1650, 1000 and 500. Her 1650 and 1000 times are already under the existing ECU varsity records.

Kim Brewer will come to ECU from Matthews, N.C. A senior at David W. Butler High School and an outstanding all-around freestyler, she swims for the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club in Charlotte.

Elizabeth Claire Moore (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville, H.S.) swims for the Huntsville Swim Association. A good backstroker, she was a member of the record breaking medley relay team at the Alabama High School state meet in 2000 and 2001. She has placed in the top three spots in the 100 and 200 backstroke at the high school state meet as well.

Christie Icenhower is one of two divers joining the ECU women's diving team. Icenhower (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrenceville H.S.) dives for Blue Dolphin Diving. A junior national qualifier from 1995-2003, she placed as high as a bronze medalist at nationals.

Andrea DePhillips from Acton, Mass. and Acton Boxborough Regional High School rounds out the early signees for the Lady Pirates. DePhillips dives for Charles River Diving. She was a state high school champion in 2002 and a zone qualifier.

On the men's side, ECU signed four in the early period.

Jared Gutierrez (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton H.S.) swims for Swim Atlanta, one of the top clubs in the country. He made his junior national cuts in the 500 and 200 freestyle as well as the 200 butterfly and 200 and 400 individual medley.

Drew Greco is a promising breaststroker from Newport News, Va., and Menchville High School. Greco swims for the Southeastern Virginia Aquatics Club.

Ryan Hunt is one of two divers. Hunt (Eastampton N.J./Ranococas Valey Regional H.S.) dives for Blue Dolphin Diving. A junior national qualifier from 1995-2003, he placed as high as 15th at nationals.

Tarver Mygatt (Winston, Ga.) rounds out the early signing class for the Pirates. A senior at Woodward Academy in College Park, Ga., Mygatt dives for Atlanta Diving. A zone qualifier in 2001, he placed second at the Georgia state championships in 2003.

ECU wraps up its fall season next week at the U.S. Open when four Pirate swimmers will compete looking to make their U.S. Olympic trial cuts. Juniors Diane Parker and Casey Cronin along with sophomore Holly Williams and freshman Kate Gordon will compete in the three-day event, Dec. 4-6 in Federal Way, Wash.
