IUPUI Freshman Brian Wheeler Named Mid-Continent Conference Swimmer of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., November 19. THE Mid-Continent Conference has announced that IUPUI freshman Brian Wheeler (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point/University College) has been named Mid-Con Athlete of the Week for men’s swimming. He was the third IUPUI men’s swimmer or diver to win the award this year.

Wheeler recorded a pair of second place finishes in Friday’s double-dual meet with St. Louis and Ball State. His times of 4:51.13 in the 500 free and 9:54.50 in the 1000 free were both Mid-Con season-best times. Wheeler became the first swimmer in IUPUI history to break the 10-minute barrier in the 1000 free, smashing his own school record by 11.75 seconds.

On the year, Wheeler owns two other Mid-Con season-best times. He recorded marks of 16:59.38 in the 1650 free and 4:17.89 in the 400 IM.
