Wisconsin’s Anna Trinidad Named Big Ten Swimmer Of The Week

MADISON, Wisc., November 18. FOR the fourth time in three weeks, a University of Wisconsin swimmer has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. Sophomore Anna Trinidad is the latest Badger to earn the honor following her performance in a 143-91 Wisconsin win over Northwestern last Thursday.

Senior Bethany Pendleton and junior Adam Mania each earned the award last week, while junior Carly Piper took home the honor the week before. In addition, senior Matt Marshall was the men’s recipient on Oct. 29.

Trinidad, a Colorado Springs, Colo., native, earned this week’s women’s award after finishing first in two individual events and swimming a leg on a winning relay in the victory over the Wildcats. Trinidad earned top honors and set a UW Natatorium pool record in winning the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.82. She also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a winning time of 2:01.34. Both times eclipsed NCAA “B” cut standards.

Trinidad concluded the meet by joining Piper, Sarah Hernandez and Shannon VanCuren on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.67).

The Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team is currently ranked 10th in the CSCAA dual meet poll with a 3-1 overall dual meet record including a 3-0 mark in the Big Ten. The Badgers return to action this Friday through Sunday when they compete in the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
