By Ed Gendreau

PORTSMOUTH, NH, November 16. GREG Shaw, of New England Masters (NEM), lowered the men’s 50-54 year 200 IM world record by almost two seconds at a half-day meet hosted by Great Bay Masters Swim Team today.

Greg’s time of 2:20.35 bettered Jim McConica’s pending USMS mark, 2:22.04, and Timothy Shead’s (RSA) FINA world record, 2:22.23.

The USMS record now has been improved upon four times since October 2002,
thrice by Shaw. Shaw’s previous marks: 2:23.72 (10/26/02) and 2:22.68 (12/15/02).

Two weeks and a day prior at MIT, Shaw had improved his own 50 fly world
record by a third of a second to 26.79. Shaw has improved the 50 fly record on four occasions since December 2001, with 27.45 (12/9/01), 27.39 (10/26/02), and 27.11 (12/15/02).
