Hochstein Sets Masters World Mark -- November 14, 2003

LOS ANGELES, November 14. MASTERS swimmer Erik Hochstein, a German Olympian, set a new Masters short course world record at the UCLA Bruin Invitational last weekend.

Hochstein, who won a bronze medal for Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, showed he’s pretty good at the 800 meter distance all by himself. Hochstein clocked 8:23.06 to break the world record for men 35-39. The old mark, 8:26.43, was set by Ventura Masters’ Mike Shaffer in December 2000.

Erik, a 1992 graduate of USC, is currently training with the Trojan swim team and preparing for the German Nationals and Olympic Trials in June of 2004. He wanted to set a record at the UCLA meet because in college he always enjoyed swimming and beating UCLA in dual meet competition.
