NCAA Div. I Women: Nebraska Makes Easy Work of Southwest Missouri State

LINCOLN, Neb., November 8. BOLSTERED by several strong performances Saturday afternoon, the University of Nebraska women's swimming and diving team downed Southwest Missouri State, 204-91, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool to improve to 2-0 on the season.

NU won the first six events contested on Saturday, and 13 of the 16 total. In addition, three Huskers each won a pair of individual events.

NU Head Coach Pablo Morales was pleased with his team's effort.

"I challenged the team today to swim better than they did a few weeks ago against Southern Illinois. We pushed them really hard during practice the past two weeks, and they responded well. They really stepped up and swam hard today, we're usually seeing these kinds of times later in the season," Morales said. "We've also put some relays together that are competitive and are showing the depth and strength of our team. I was impressed with our performance today."

Sophomore Danielle Erickson, along with freshmen Kate Wheeler and Julie McCauley each won two events for NU en route to leading the team to victory. Erickson touched the wall in first in both the 100- (59.15) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.73). Erickson also swam a leg in NU's 400-yard medley relay, contributing to the relay team's first place finish (3:56:62). Wheeler scored with quick finishes in both the 500- (5:05.01) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.80) races. McCauley earned first-place finishes in the 100- (52.52) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.12), as well as capturing a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (58.12).

The Huskers also pulled out a strong finish with a season best time in the 400-yard medley relay (3:56.62).

Other individual winners for NU were senior Angie Matheu (100-yard breaststroke, 1:06.17), sophomores Amie Buoy (one meter diving, 254.55 points) and Rachel Schlatter (200-yard breast, 2:26.51) and freshman Bailey Ingles (100-yard butterfly, 57.92) and Lauren Bailey (200-yard butterfly, 2:04.42).
