GREENSBORO, N.C., October 28. THE University of Virginia first-year swimmer Kimi Kelly (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Ursuline School) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Kelly won a pair of events in Virginia's season-opening double-dual meet Friday and Saturday, October 24-25 at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.

Kelly won the 500 free and 1000 free in near pool record times against two-time NCAA defending champion Auburn and Penn State. In the 500 free, her first collegiate race, Kelly touched in 4:44.92 to automatically qualify for the 2004 NCAA Championships and came within 1.5 seconds of breaking two-time NCAA champion Cara Lane's UVa pool record. Kelly also won the 1000 freestyle in 9:42.77 and missed Lane's pool mark by only two seconds. Kelly also posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:01.26 in the 200 butterfly.

The Cavaliers lost to Auburn 218-127 and to Penn State 191-162 and stand at 0-2 on the season.

Virginia returns to action on Friday, October 31 when it travels to Columbia, S.C. for a 3:00 p.m. meet against South Carolina.
