Two Ukrainians Banned for Steroids -- October 1, 2003

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, September 30. TWO Ukranian swimmers tested positive in major meets this summer and have been given two-year suspensions by FINA.

Natalia Khudyakova, 18, and Yuliya Pidlisna, 16, both tested positive for stanozolol, an old-line steroid used extensively by East Germany.

Khudyakova, who placed seventh in the 50 meter butterfly at the World Championships in July, was provisionally suspended from August 18, until a final decision is made following a test of her B sample.

Pidlisna tested positive at the European Junior Championships in Glasgow, where she placed third in the 400 IM. The 16 year-old has been suspended for two years by LEN, effective September 19.
